Favorite Horror Movies and Covers...

Candy corn, Pumpkins, Halloween parties and Horror films....Halloween is here. I'm a big fan of Horror films, I like watching B-side , Cult and Shockumentaries movies. Whenever I get a chance I like going to the Grindhouse Theater on Beverly Blvd west of La Brea, sometimes I just pass by just to see the great Horror film posters.

On Friday, I overheard some youngsters talking about how SAW Cinco (Five) is scary and good. I think that High School Musical movie is scarier than Saw 5...

As a kid I had no choice but to watch Horror films with my Uncle. I remember this video store by my house, I would walk on the other side of the street to avoid seeing the Horror Posters. Even though, I was scared I was always attracted to the posters. I think it has always been the creepy images they have used to create fear and mystery.

Here are some of my favorite films and covers check out the typography on these babies...

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)
The Exorcist
Dead Alive
I Drink Your Blood
Cannibal Holocaust (Not for the Squeamish)

Yeah the typography on these things are pretty neat. The designs have a real gritty, underground feel to 'em. It sfunny how the posters to grindhouse movies and cult flicks really draw you in and kind of disgust you when you look at 'em. I remember seeing a movie poster that had to do with an ax murderer. It had a picture of a big steak, a chopped up hand holding a meat cleaver that was stuck on to a wooden table and a pair of eyeballs set nicely next to the steak. I must have been like, 7 when I saw it. I remember just making up an entire movie out of that whole poster and it was digusting and horrifying. Something a freak like you might like. Ha Ha Ha!

Whoa!! That first poster TOTALLY reminds me of the Vlad the Impaler's (aka Dracula) origin stories.

Stories say that he drank and bathed in the blood of his enemies. He would kill people and then shove poles through them (like in the first poster) and then put the corpses up like a gate surrounding his castle.

And if you were a woman, and you were accused of adultery... they'd heat up the metal pole first :X Uughhh gross :(

Hmm... why hasn't anyone made a movie on the original Vlad the Impaler? ._.

They are really cool. It's funny how they are so different from the movie posters for comedies and such. Ex. The Disaster movie had every person that came out on the film in the posters. It was so typical. It's like they all needed to be credited for. On horror film posters it's more about capturing the theme of the film. The Cannibal poster just uses illustration and that's pretty cool.

I seriously like that holocaust poster you posted. I don't like idea of a Holocaust but it captures my attention. Usually things that are goring and have shock value draw in in viewer. Texas Chainsaw, now that movie is just disturbing, most gore movies are. Exorcist is just plain creepy, that movie scared me more than Texas or Saw. Personally I don't like any of the Saw movies except the first one after that it just got tiring.
